10K Minorities Receive `One Lakh Each

Hyderabad: The distribution programme of Rs 1 lakh financial assistance to minorities drew an overwhelming response from Muslims, Sikhs and Jains at the Lal Bahadur stadium here on Saturday. Ten thousand people were given cheques on the occasion.

Minister Koppula Eshwar explained that the state government was implementing many welfare programmes to uplift minorities.

He said that Rs 270 crore has been allocated to the Minority Finance Corporation (MFC). He said that overall 27,000 people will each receive cheques for Rs 1 lakh.

He said that the Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao has been implementing all the promises made to minorities.

The beneficiaries were all praise for Rao. One of them, Mohammed Hisamuddin from Falaknuma, said, "We have never seen a Chief Minister like this before. After serving chicken biryani, he gave us Rs 1 lakh. With this money, I will start a business."

The meeting was attended by home minister Mahamood Ali, MFC chairman Rajeshwar Rao, minority welfare government adviser AK Khan, MLC Prabhakar Rao, Haj Committee chairman Tariq Ansari and others.
