Tiruchy: 8 including 4 women killed in road mishap

TIRUCHY: At least eight persons including four women and three children were killed and nine others were injured when a mini lorry in which they were traveling plunged into a roadside huge irrigation well at Thirumanur village near Thuraiyur in Tiruchy district on Sunday.

Police said the occupants of the mini lorry hailing from Perur village near Musiri were proceeding to attend a temple ‘Pooja’ at S.N.Pudur village when the mishap occurred.

The driver is believed to have lost control of the wheel after one of the front tyres of the vehicle burst, police said.

All the injured were rushed to the Government hospital at Thuraiyur from where some of them were referred to the Mahatma Gandhi memorial Government hospital, Tiruchy.

The deceased were identified as Gunaseelan (65), Mrs. Kumarathi (52), Mrs. Gomathi (40), Mrs. Ezhilarasi (55). Ms. Kayalvizhi (35) Sarankumar (7), Sanjana (4) and Yamuna (7), police said.The accident has come as rude shock.
