Life convict ends his life in Hyderabad mental hospital

Cherlapally prison superintendent M.R. Bhaskar said that Feroz was admitted to the prison on July 24.

Hyderabad: A 24-year-old life convict admitted to the Institute of Mental Health, reportedly committed suicide by hanging.  Feroz Khan, a native of Nizamabad, was found dead early on Sunday, said an SR Nagar police official.

Feroz Khan, 24, a resident of Autonagar in Nizamabad, was convicted in August for murdering his mother and sentenced to undergo life imprisonment. He was sent to the Cherlapally Central Jail in Hyderabad to serve out the sentence.

“Feroz was admitted to the IMH on August 5. A few days after admission, the patient had attempted suicide by consuming nails. It is suspected that he had committed suicide under depression that he has murdered his mother in a petty issue and also got life conviction,” said SR Nagar inspector S. Murali Krishna. He said Feroz’s body was found at around 6 am by the staff at the Institute of Mental Health. The body was hanging from an exhaust fan fixed in the bathroom.

“Feroz had earlier shown suicidal tenancies and was admitted to the IMH. After treatment, he was sent back to the prison. On August 5, he was again sent to the hospital after the jail staff noticed that he was under depression,” the superintendent told this newspaper.
