NAGAPATTINAM: As many as 250 de-silting works in the irrigation canals and other water bodies across the delta region comprising Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, and Nagapattinam districts are going on in full swing at a cost of Rs 60 crore, according to M. Balaji, additional secretary to Tamil Nadu Government, PWD (Irrigation).

Mr. Balaji who is also a special officer for monitoring the ‘Kudimaramathu’ works, accompanied by Nagapattinam collector Dr S. Suresh Kumar, held discussions with the farmers’ representatives on the ongoing de-silting works here on Sunday. He later told newsmen that the farmers wanted the de-silting works to be completed in ten days.

To complete the works, within 10 days 200 earthmovers will be added within a couple of days in addition to the existing 180 earthmovers, engaged in the de-silting works.

He said in Nagapattinam district alone 29 works are executed on priority basis.
