THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The rape and cheating case against Binoy Kodiyeri has caused a huge embarrassment to CPM state secretary Kodyeri Balakrishnan and his party in the state.

A 33-year-old woman, who belongs to Bihar, alleged in her complaint that Binoy had sexually assaulted her under the pretext of marriage. The woman got acquainted with Binoy while working as a bar dancer in Dubai. The complainant claimed she has a child from the relationship.

An FIR for sexual assault, cheating and intimidation has already been registered against Binoy following a complaint from the Mumbai-based victim. She registered the case at Andheri Oshiwara police station on June 13. According to the complaint, Binoy and the woman were in a relation since 2008 while she was working at a dance bar in Dubai. Binoy had promised to marry her. However, despite several pleas, he cheated her. After she came to know that he was already married, the woman decided to register a complaint.

On her allegation of having an eight-year- old son from their relationship, Binoy said there were ways through which one can scientifically examine and establish the parentage. “I am ready for any such examination,” he added.

While his father Kodiyeri Balakishnan, who is reportedly under treatment at an ayurveda hospital, was not available for comments, his son has accused the woman of blackmail and filed a counter compliant. "I know the woman who lodged the complaint. She had sent a notice six months ago claiming that I had married her. She demanded Rs 5 crore at that time. I had filed a complaint with Inspector General of Police Kannur range in connection with the demand," he told a regional news channel.

He said he would proceed legally against the complaint.

Meanwhile, the woman said she would not back out from the complaint filed against Binoy. When contacted by Malayalam news channels in Mumbai, the complainant said she would proceed legally in the matter. She was aware that the case was against an influential person. “Whatever may be the threat, I will not back out,” she said.

All facts had been stated in the complaint, she said and claimed that the required evidence was in her possession. She will produce evidence and other material whenever the police or investigating agencies demanded.

The woman pointed out that evidence, including WhatsApp messages and photographs during the period of 2009 – 2018, was in her possession. On the blackmail charge of Binoy, she said he was deliberately raking up that to mislead the police and divert the attention of the people.

Binoy was in the news last year when a Dubai-based company accused him of cheating it of dirham 7,000,000 (Rs 13 crore). Later, the issue was settled and he got a good conduct certificate from the Dubai police.

At that time, the CPM had distanced itself from the allegations saying that it was about a business transaction between an individual and a firm and that the party had nothing to do with it.
