WARANGAL: The farmers who sowed seeds after the early monsoon showers are left worried with the rain holding off for the past 10 days.  The farmers were initially happy as the rain came in just about the time the state government started giving away the money under the Rythu Bandhu scheme at Rs 4,000 per acre in the first week of June.  However, there has been no rain in the erstwhile Warangal district and in much of the state. The weather has been warmer, with temperatures above 38ºC. The met department has declared that similar conditions would prevail for four or five days.

The land has started drying and developing cracks. Farmers had sowed cotton seeds in Mahbubabad, Thorrur, Narsimhulapet, Danthalapalli, Maripeda, Chinnagudur and Bayyaram areas.  With water bodies and agriculture wells drying up, farmers are watering the seeds with pots.

In Thorrur the farmers sowed cotton seeds in 5,000 acres. A farmer, Mr Masadi Kommalu of Kesamudram, said if there was no rain for three or four days and the heat continues, the seeds would get burnt within the ground. “I have spent Rs 10,000 for the seeds, ploughing and labour charges. Now it seems I have already lost my initial investment. I have to sow once again,” he said.
