Hyderabad Traffic Police to book if you refuse, prevent breathalyser test

In 2017, the Hyderabad Traffic Police had plans to book drunk co-passengers but it is yet to be implemented.

Hyderabad: Hyderabad Traffic Police is booking cases against those who prevent police personnel from carrying out drunk driving checks on drivers, as well as those who refuse to take the test. The traffic police on June 9 booked city resident Ganesh Reddy who refused to take the breathalyser test. The same day, a car passenger was booked for obstructing the traffic police when they were trying to test the driver for drunk driving. The traffic police seized both the vehicles. 

Mr Anil Kumar, additional traffic commissioner, Hyderabad, said, “Traffic police take all precautions and follow the rules while conducting the drunk driving checks. Anyone creating nuisance and those who don’t cooperate and take the breath analysis test are sent to the law and order police for necessary legal action.”

He said the traffic police also tries its best to videograph the whole exercise. According to traffic police officials, they stopped a car (AP21 BB 222) for a drunk driving test on Jubilee Hills Road No. 10. The driver refused to blow into the breathalyser and other members present in the car started creating a nuisance. The traffic police inspector wrote to the Jubilee Hills police station to take them to the government hospital for alcohol test as they had refused to give the breathalyser test.

In another incident at Madhapur, city resident Siddharth T. Reddy was booked under IPC Sections 332, 186, 323, 341, 279 and 506 and Section 185 of the MV Act for ‘Voluntary causing hurt in drunken condition to deter a public servant”. He was remanded o judicial custody. In 2017, the Hyderabad Traffic Police also had plans to book drunk co-passengers but it is yet to be implemented. Inspector K.P.V. Raju, administration, Hydera-bad Traffic Police, said, “When we observe anyone in the vehicle creating a nuisance, we complain it to the law and order police to book a case against the offenders. Following our complaint, the law and order police books complaints against the offenders.”
