Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court on Monday granted stay on proceedings issued by the endowments department to appoint a trust board to the Sri Peddamma temple at Jubilee Hills. Justice A.V. Sesha Sai was dealing with a petition filed by former MLA P. Vishnuvardhan Reddy questioning the proceedings issued by the endowments principal secretary May 9 inviting applications to constitute the trust board.

Mr Surya Satish, counsel for the petitioner, said the late legislator P. Janardhan Reddy, the father of Mr Vishnuvardhan Reddy, had taken great pains to construct the temple and got the main idol sculpted and placed in the temple, and had managed the temple affairs. After Janardhan Reddy’s death, his family was managing the temple with their funds. The proceedings issued by the endowments department were in violation of the Telangana Charitable and Hindu Religious Institutions Endowments Act 1987 and Articles 14, 25 and 26 of the Constitution.
