Rain: Kerala opens relief camps, earmarks funds

Thiruvananthapuram: The revenue department has opened relief camps in various parts of the state after heavy rainfall caused havoc. The revenue department has also earmarked Rs 50 lakh for each district for relief activities.
The state has witnessed heavy showers on Tuesday while meteorological department warned of continued rains on Thursday.
The revenue department has asked all district collectors to start relief camps alerted collectors of Thiruvananthapuram and Alappuzha districts against sea surge, an official statement said here.
In Alappuzha district, four relief camps have been set up with two each in Cherthala and Ambalapuzha taluks.
At least 149 families have been shifted to these relief camps. In Thiruvananthapuram, one relief camp each has been opened in Valiyathura and Adimalathura and moved 24 families here.
District collectors have been asked to take steps in association with water resources department to the breach the breakwaters if needed.
The revenue department has made arrangements for ensuring the support of the navy, coast guard, army, IDBP, air force and the National Disaster Response Force.
