CM Chandrababu Naidu’s review meets in violation of code: YSRC

Vijayawada: YSR Congress, on Thursday,  lodged a complaint with the state chief electoral officer (CEO) Gopala Krishna Dwivedi against Chief Minister.

N. Chandrababu Naidu for conducting review meetings with the government officials,  terming it as a violation of model code of conduct, which will be in effect till the new government is formed.  

Mr Naidu, on Wednesday, held a departmental review meeting on the progress of works of Polavaram multi-purpose project and on the activities of CRDA on Thursday.

YSRC general secretary  M.V.S. Nagi Reddy approached the CEO and sought necessary action against Mr Naidu.  

Speaking to the reporters after meeting the CEO, Mr Nagi Reddy said that the interim government and the interim CM can’t take policy decisions and also no review meetings should be conducted with the officials.   

He even ridiculed Mr Naidu for boasting of 40 years of seniority in politics and serving as the CM for 14 years without having complete knowledge of the model code of conduct.

He criticised Mr Naidu for not having respect to the Constitution of the country and the ECI.

“It is not just Naidu, even his Cabinet colleagues are also violating the code. They can be booked under the contempt of court for talking about certain incidents which the High Court had barred to talk in the public,” he added.

Meanwhile, AP CEO G.K. Dwivedi is likely to seek a report from the AP Chief Secretary about Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu conducting review meetings with the officials.

Mr Dwivedi said that the YSR Congress lodged a complaint about violation of the code of conduct by Mr Naidu and hence, the EC would seek a report on the same.

He said that the YSRC objected to the review meetings with various government departments by Mr Naidu in the position of interim CM at the Praja Vedika at Undavalli and submitted a complaint to the EC in this regard.

Mr Dwivedi praised district officials who worked arduously for the successful conduct of elections and said that EC has asked reports from collectors of several districts on various complaints, including violation of norms.

He said that the EC will initiate disciplinary action against the officials who had been negligent in discharging election duties.

He said that the ECI spent `600 crore to conduct elections in AP, and this would be borne by the Union and state governments equally. He said that `180 crore was spent on the police department for the elections.

Responding to the variations in remuneration to the election officials and staff, Mr Dwivedi said that EC directed district collectors to resolve the disputes and to pay the remuneration as per the EC guidelines. He said he was looking into all complaints received.
