Hyderabad: A documentary film focusing on the historical Osmania University has been announced.

University authorities roped in Nagabala Suresh to direct the film on the occasion of the institute’s centenary celebrations starting April 26.

OU’s vice-chancellor. Prof. S. Ramachandram has already launched the shoot of the film — in Telugu and English — at the Arts College building. The film is expected to be released across theatres on April 25 — a day before the centenary celebrations.

The documentary focuses on the university’s extensive history; from its establishment in 1917 thanks to Nizam VII, Mir Osman Ali Khan; the growth of various departments over the years and the alumni settled across the world; to other crucial milestones.

Vice-chancellor Ramachandram said Osmania University has rolled out thousands of students over the years and some occupy top positions in India and abroad. “We will present the University’s entire history in the film” he said.

Mr Suresh, the documentary’s director, said the Osmania University was an inspiration.

“There are scores of Osmania students living abroad. This small film is like seven oceans confined to a box and will be like the Sankranti, Ugadi, and Bathukama festival for Telugus,” he said.
