UDF hartal complete: Many RTC buses were stoned and shops forced to shut

KOZHIKODE: The hartal called by the UDF in protest against the murder of two Youth Congress workers at Periya near Kanjangad was complete in the region.

Though KSRTC buses and many private vehicles plied in the morning, the UDF workers blocked them later. Many KSRTC buses were stoned and shops were forced to down their shutters.

A few shops opened at SM Street, but the majority remained closed. A large posse of police personnel was stationed in the area.

Though private vehicles operated, the hartal supporters waylaid them by 10 a.m. In Wayanad, the interstate buses, KSRTC buses and trucks were blocked on NH 766 and Kozhikode Kollegal national highway.   The KSRTC services were suspended later.

Many passengers were stranded at Sulthan Bathery where all the interstate buses were stopped by UDF workers.
