Visakhapatnam: Teacher gets three years in jail for harassing minor

Visakhapatnam: A government teacher was sentenced to three years rigorous imprisonment under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 by the first additional metropolitan session judge for sexually harassing a 10-year-old girl student.

Kolli Simhachalam, a Telugu teacher at the MPEP School, Kothapalem near Gopalapatnam was convicted of calling the Class V student to his chamber and misbehaving with her. The teacher was caught red-handed while misbehaving with the girl on January 25, 2014. After receiving a complaint from her parents, Kancharapalem police registered a case against the teacher and investigated further. The prosecution examined seven witnesses and was able to prove the case beyond all reasonable doubts. According to special public prosecutor M. Venu Gopala Rao, the additional metropolitan session judge and second additional ADJ V.V. Srinivas Mur-thy convicted the 49-year-old accused to undergo 3 years imprisonment.

The court has also slapped a fine of Rs 25,000 on the teacher.
