B M Birla Science Centre & Planetarium Empowers Students on World Student's Day
On October 15, 2023, coinciding with the National Students Day commemorating the Birth Anniversary of Former President of India, Dr A P J Abdul Kalam, the B M Birla Science Centre & Planetarium started a 5-day hands on event titled “Creative Ability Programme - CAP 2023” for high school students. The workshop features a variety of interactive activities and experiments related to Physics, Astronomy, Electronics etc.
Mr. K G Kumar, Director, B M Birla Science Centre & Planetarium, informed that this event has been conceived with the objective to expose the students to interactions on various topics of science; group discussions and workshop practices which will lead to making of scientific models on the topics and testing them on their efficacy. He added that this workshop is organized in line with the theme of National Student’s Day – “Empowering the Future: Education for All” and the famous slogan “FAIL – First Attempt in Learning”.
The hands-on activities are spread from working in the Mechanical and Electronics workshop of the Science Centre and going behind the Planetarium to see how the shows are brought to the viewers till making science models with their own hand. The event will be covering the complete cycle of developing a scientific model. The process includes understanding the topic, ideation, development, design, fabrication, testing and observational analysis with the models.
The environment is designed to be an out of school activity where the participants are encouraged to ask questions and discuss among themselves and the mentors. He added that many such events are planned to be done during the summer vacation for the students. Participants will be given certificates and the models made by them at the end of the event on 19th Oct 2023.
