18 children lost both parents to Covid in SPSR Nellore district

Referring to the state government aid of Rs 10 lakh to the orphaned children, she said it will remain as a FD till the child turns 25 years

Nellore: Eighteen children lost both their parents to Covid in SPSR Nellore district, said K.M. Rozmand, project director of the women and child welfare department. Another 252 children lost one of their parents to the disease.

Referring to the state government compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the orphaned children, she said that the amount will remain as a fixed deposit in nationalised bank till the child turns 25 years old.

The interest will be transferred to the joint account of the child and their guardian to meet the monthly expenditure.

According to Rozmand, out of 18 orphaned children, Rs 10 lakh compensation has been sanctioned to 14, and the application of the four others are under process.

The names of all 18 children have been uploaded on to the PM Cares portal for sanction of similar aid.

With regard to 252 single-parent children, Rs 500 per month is sanctioned for 135 children and the cases of others are being processed. The child welfare committee has approved all the applications, Rozmand said.
