Bengaluru: State BJP president and leader of Opposition in the Assembly, B S Yeddyurappa, said Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy’s defeat during the trust vote is imminent as the Supreme Court order on resignation letters submitted by 15 rebel legislators is a victory of “the Constitution and democracy.”

He told the media the apex court’s order that rebel MLAs should not be compelled to attend the session was nothing short of a “moral victory” for them. Mr. Yeddyurappa said the Supreme Court would set a new trend in parliamentary democracy by adjudicating on powers of the Speaker.

Former Chief Minister Jagadeesh Shettar said the Chief Minister has no moral right to continue in office, and must quit without seeking the trust vote as the apex court has made it clear the whip will not be applicable to 15 rebel legislators.
