Jagan prioritises construction of houses in Amaravati R5 zone

Vijayawada: Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy instructed officials to give priority to the construction of houses for the poor after distribution of house sites in Amaravati and to complete 8.64 lakh houses under the flagship Pedalandariki Illu-Navaratnalu programme. He was speaking after reviewing the ongoing housing programme at Tadepalli on Thursday.

Jagan Mohan Reddy directed the officials to prepare an action plan for construction of houses and hand them over to the beneficiaries after distributing the house site pattas in the R-5 zone in the Amaravati capital region.

“The sooner the houses are constructed and handed over to the poor, the better would it be for their lives,” he said, adding that TIDCO houses should also be handed over to the beneficiaries early.

The officials stated that 5024 TIDCO houses were ready while works related to leveling of land in the R-5 zone has been completed and they were ready to distribute house site pattas.

Regarding the progress of houses under Pedalandariki Illu Navaratnalu, the officials informed that 3.70 lakh houses were completed so far and the state government had spent Rs 1,085 crore on housing in the last 45 days. Construction of 5.01 lakh houses would be completed in the next 45 days while 8.64 lakh houses are in various stages of post-basement level, they said.

They further said that special officers appointed under Jaganannaku Chebudam are also supervising the construction of houses and quality control tests are being conducted at every level. They explained they have intensified efforts to get bank loans to women beneficiaries. Till date, 11.03 lakh women were granted bank loans of up to Rs 35, 000 each. The loan amount sanctioned under the Pavala Vaddi (25 paise interest) scheme has also gone up to Rs 3,886.76 crore, they said.

Housing minister J. Ramesh, MA & UD minister A. Suresh, and senior officials D. Dorababu, J. Prasanna Kumar, G. Sai Prasad, Y. Sri Lakshmi, K. Vijayanand, Ajay Jain, K.V.V. Satyanarayana, A. Md. Imtiaz, Ch. Sridhar, G. Lakshmi Shah and V.G. Venkata Reddy were also present.
