Nellore:  Bollywood actor Sonu Sood, who won millions of hearts with his philanthropy during the course of the Coronavirus pandemic, has come forward to set up a Liquid Medical Oxygen (LMO) plant at the district hospital in the backward Atmakur town of SPSR Nellore district in Andhra Pradesh.

Responding to a detailed letter from district collector K.V.N. Chakradhar Babu on the alarming situation in the district where the positive rate stands at 37 per cent, Sonu Sood, agreed to provide Rs1.5 crore for the construction of the plant.

The collector, who is an old acquaintance of the actor, explained the daily demand of 40 MTs of oxygen to address the needs of 36 Covid Care Hospitals and 24 private hospitals with a bed strength of 2,848 beds including 1,525 oxygen beds and 310 ICU beds.

In his letter, the collector said, “We are receiving 9 MT Liquid Medical Oxygen (LMO) from Inox, Sriperumbudur, 20 MT from Linde, Chennai, and 16 MT on alternative days from RINL, Visakhapatnam.”

The present LMO supply from these plants is inadequate and many patients waiting for oxygen beds couldn't be given admissions in the hospitals due to the supply constraints of LMO, he said.

“With a sense of personal gratitude for your service to the nation in distressed times, I seek your intervention to bolster the efforts of the district administration in Covid response, Chakradhar Babu requested.”

Moved by the situation, Sonu Sood, who was named as an Asian celebrity in the world for his philanthropic efforts, promised to extend financial assistance to a 1.5 MT LMO plant.

Sharing the information to this newspaper, industries minister and legislator of Atmakur, Mekapati Goutham Reddy profoundly thanked Sonu Sood and also commended Chakradhar Babu for his initiative.
