Bengaluru: The Cabinet has rejected the report of the Kedambadi Jagannatha Shetty Commission which probed the Haveri police firing, that took place on June 2008, killing two farmers and causing a huge embarrassment to the Yeddyurappa government.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mr T.B. Jayachandra said the report would be placed before both Houses of the legislature during the budget session, beginning on Friday. Though the then government had admitted that those killed in police firing were farmers and compensation was paid to the family members of the deceased, the report had contended that one of the deceased, Mr Siddappa Sannappa Churi was not a farmer. Besides, the Commission had denied the fact that farmers had launched the agitation saying it was politically motivated, forcing the police to open the fire.

Since the Commission of Inquiry had contradicted the government view, the Cabinet decided to reject the recommendation.

Power project shelved
The Cabinet shelved a 660 MW power project proposal by Hassan Thermal Power Private Limited, for which, the government had allotted 458 acres way back in 1997. The power project company had paid only '5 crore to the government for allotment of the land. At first, the company said it would produce 60MW power and later, 140 MW. Then, they came up with 660 MW power project. Now, the company wants the government to allot alternative land near Bengaluru.
