Sabarimala temple closes after pujas

The temple will reopen for 10-day festival in March second week.

Alappuzha: The Sabarimala temple, after a week-long Kumbamaasa pujas, closed on Sunday. The sanctum sanctorum was closed by 10 pm after routine pujas. The temple will reopen for 10-day festival in March second week.

Melsanthi (chief priest) V.N.Vasudevan Namboodiri shut the doors of the temple in the presence of tantri Kandararu Rajeevararu. On Sunday, 'Sahasrakalasham' was held in the noon.

Though police was deployed in and around the Sabarimala temple fearing protests, no untoward incident was reported. Two Andhra women were sent back by protesters peacefully when they tried to trek to the temple along with a pilgrimage group.

This season got over with no restrictions for devotees despite the police requesting the district administration to impose section 144 of CrPC.
