Hyderabad: TS Transco and Genco chairman and managing director and the chairman of Southern Region Power Committee (SRPC), D. Prabhakar Rao said that the power utilities should be ready according to the growth of the electronic vehicle industry in the country.

Giving the presidential address on Saturday in the SRPC meeting held at Puducherry, Prabhakar Rao said all the countries across the globe are promoting the use of eco-friendly vehicles to decrease pollution.

In India, too, the electronic vehicle manufacturing industry is developing quickly. He said that the country’s target is, 100% usage by 2030 in the public transport  sector and 40% electric vehicles in the individual category.

He said that there is a demand from the automobile industry to power utilities to provide electric recharge stations and in view of this the power utilities should be ready to meet the demand.

He has suggested that power utilities should consult the concerned electricity regulatory commissions to see that electric recharge agencies are considered as separate power consumers and separate tariffs should be decided for them. He told the officials of various states to prepare for supply of required power to the recharging stations.

Meanwhile, in the meeting, several officials of various states have enquired about 24x7 power supply to the agri sector in Telangana state.
