Bidar: Not liquor but water seems to have played a big role in the  spectacular win of Mr Rahim Khan of the Congress  in the Bidar North by-election.

Mr Khan  has been supplying water free of cost in tankers to the people of the district since he lost the Assembly election in 2013.  Besides running the Roohi Group of Institutions, a chain of educational institutes in the district, he has half a dozen tankers that supply water  to people free o charge.

The move has  earned him valuable brownie points as the  people of Bidar have been facing an acute drinking water problem of late.  Calling the free supply of water a “most pious”  duty , he vows to continue providing the service even now that he has been elected to the state Assembly.  In fact , he says, he intends to up the service.

“I will bring in more tankers to supply water to more people. I also plan to approach  Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to come out with a project to address the water shortage in the constituency ,” he promises.
