Kolkata: A Trinamul Congress worker was called out of his home and was hacked to death allegedly by his party on the road over an internal feud in South 24 Parganas on Saturday night.

The victim, Sahidul Ali Sheikh, was a driver from Balaban at Madarat panchayat area in Baruipur West. He had a dispute with Baruipur East TMC MLA Bibhas Sardar’s aides over the playground of a local club.

His family claimed Mr Sardar’s followers attacked him at around 9 pm after calling him out of home. Sahidul was rushed to Baruipur Hospital where he succumbed to injuries. The police arrested 12 persons for the murder and sealed the club.

Assembly Speaker Biman Banerjee, also the Baruipur West MLA, said, “The deceased was an active worker of our party. The dispute over the playground led to trouble earlier. We have no faction feud here. CPI(M) has a minimal strength here. BJP is supporting it.”

He added, “We will investigate who had links with whom. Action will be taken against whoever, be it an MP or  MLA, or any party functionary, is involved. Chief minister Mamata Banerjee will decide on the action.”
