Hyderabad: The director of Enforcement, Vigilance and Disaster Management of the GHMC has issued 1,823 notices to hospitals, schools and hostels for not having taken fire safety measures in their premises.

A total of 370 clinics and nursing homes were checked. The action followed the fire in a hospital in the city last month which resulted in an infant being burnt to death and four others being injured.

On other issues, the GHMC also decided that a special drive will be conducted to remove banners and flexis in the city. After that, those who set up such material will be penalised.

The EV&DM has created a portal, Central Emergency Cell (CEC), where e-challans would be generated to impose penalties to offenders throwing construction and demolition waste and garbage in public spaces and urinating in public.

Presently, the staff of EV&DM has access to this portal and by December it will be to the GHMC officials and efforts are being made to available to the citizens where they can upload the complaint.

During a meeting held with GHMC and EV&DM officials, Mayor Bonthu Rammohan said as part of providing a clean environment to the citizens, one of the exercises the civic staff would take was to check littering, wall writing, wall posters and banners. The GHMC has taken steps to levy fines on the offenders through e- challan.

The EV&DM currently has 24 teams and its strength will be increased to 65 in the near future, he said.
