Doctors strike: Four die in Bagalkot, Dharwad and Gadag

Meanwhile, the Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences in Hubballi and other government hospitals witnessed a rush of patients on Thursday.

Hubballi: Patients  continued to suffer as the doctors’ strike  entered the fourth day with four more deaths reported at private hospitals in Bagalkot, Dharwad and Gadag districts for want of treatment on Thursday. 

Doctors of the Bagalkot district hospital had referred a pregnant woman, Laxmi Pattar to the Kumareshwar private hospital after her condition deteriorated. 

Although she was seen by  the doctors there,  the baby died in her womb. The woman herself survived. Her relatives, however, accused the doctors of negligence.

In another case, Shantavva  Raval (58) from Banahatti in Jamkhandi taluk,  died of a heart attack on the way to the government hospital in Jamkhandi after being denied treatment by private hospitals in her hometown. Daily wager Karthik Rokhade (24) of Dharwad also  died of a heart attack after he was  refused treatment in private hospitals. He was declared brought dead at the Dharwad government hospital.

In Gadag, Channappa Palled (65), who was suffering from pneumonia, also died allegedly because he was denied proper treatment at the Gadag Institute of Medical Sciences.
