Hyderabad: PCC president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy and senior Congress MLA J. Geetha Reddy on Saturday appealed to professionals to join the Congress to do public service.

Narrating his own experience, he said, “As an Indian Air Force fighter pilot, I had never imagined that someday I would enter politics. But I joined electoral politics, got elected for four terms as a legislator and now I am heading the party in Telangana state”.

He said a majority of professionals had fallen for the political propaganda of the BJP in 2014 elections. They voted to make Mr Narendra Modi the Prime Minister with the hope that he would fulfil his promises. “They were shocked after realising that the Modi government has cheated them,” he said.

He said both Mr Modi and Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao were destroying democratic institutions and professionals could stop this “massacre of democracy” by joining the Congress.

Dr Geetha Reddy said Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi had realised that millions of professionals could play an active role in strengthening democracy and therefore decided to form the All India Profess-ionals Congress (AIPC) with former Union minister Shashi Tharoor as its chairman, and herself as South India coordinator.

She said the AIPC would identify and debate issues concerning common people from the village to the national level. She said that the AIPC would pick important issues which should be debated in the Assembly and Parliament.
