Slush in Kurnool storage tanks is of no help

KURNOOL: The drinking water shortage in Kurnool has been compounded by the fact that the authorities could not do anything to alleviate the problem as they failed to clear the slush in summer storage tanks.

With Tungabhadra flood water, Sunkesula Dam received good inflow. From Sunkesula, water was transferred to the summer storage tanks.

Here the water became muddy and not fit for pumping, said the officials concerned in the municipality.

The denizens of Kurnool have been getting water once in four days, that too through tanker supply. Kallur, Shareen Nagar, B-Camp, C-Camp, NR Pet, Chennamma circle, Old City, Bus Stand, I-town area and new colonies on Nandikotkur road have been virtually suffering due to lack of drinking water. Packaged water is available in departmental stores and also quickly going off the shelves, said Munirathnam, a resident of Ganesh Nagar.

Kurnool MLA Hafeez Khan directed the municipal authorities concerned to swing into action and solve the water crisis. He summoned municipal executive engineer Surendrababu and told him to take steps to dig more bore wells in the city.

Mr Khan said that some of the lanes in Old City are too narrow that tankers cannot enter these areas. He asked the municipal authorities concerned to supply water to the non-reachable houses through water pipes.
