Chennai: A 16-year-old boy was hacked to death by his close friend in Pallur near Chengalpet on Thursday.

A.Suriya (16) was the son of Arul, a labourer from Kuruvanmedu under Pallur police limits. He worked in an earthwork contract company in Chengalpattu as a cleaner and was employed by Jeyachandram, sources said.

According to police, Suriya went to a temple festival in a nearby village with his friend,  Anbu (20) , who lives in the neighbourhood.

Anbu also works in an earthmoving company in Chengalpet.  It is said that he was sacked from his job recently for allegedly renting out earthmovers without owner’s knowledge.

Since Suriya did not return home on Thursday evening, Arul and his relatives launched a search for him. When they could not locate him despite an extensive search, his father lodged a complaint with local police. Late on Thursday evening, neighbours informed Arul that the body of his son was found on Pallaru river bank. Arul rushed to the spot and found Suriya’s dead body with stab injuries on his stomach and head. Arul shifted the body to his house, sources said.

On being informed, Pallur police arrived at the house and sent the body to the Chengalpattu government hospital for postmortem. A case was registered and inquiry initiated. Police detained Anbu and two other friends of Suriya for investigation.

During inquiry, Anbu confessed to having murdered Suriya, police said. Investigations are underway.
