Mumbai: Union Minister VK Singh’s wife Bharti Singh has lodged a complaint with the Delhi Police alleging that a family friend was blackmailing her with doctored phone conversations, and demanding a sum of Rs 2 crore in return for discretion on his part.

According to reports, Pradeep Chauhan, an acquaintance of the Singh family, allegedly recorded telephonic conversations with the minister’s wife Bharti Singh on August 6, and threatened to post them on social media until the required sum was paid. In her complaint lodged with the Tughlaq Road Police Station, Bharti Singh also alleged that she was unsure of the contents of the recordings, but Chauhan has threatened that it would ruin her husband’s reputation.

Police sources revealed that Chauhan had planned to doctor the conversations. Some reports mentioned that the FIR also referred to doctored video recordings.

VK Singh joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) following his resignation as Chief of Army Staff in 2012 and is one of the two ministers of state for the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
