Bengaluru: The state government and Governor  Vajubhai Vala are again reportedly at odds. This time they are not seeing eye to eye on the  appointment of a  new Vice Chancellor for Bangalore University, according to sources. The Governor has  returned the file recommending the name of Prof. Sangamesh Patil, who is currently registrar evaluation of Ballari University, as the new Vice Chancellor of Bangalore University to the state government, they reveal.

The university has been without a Vice Chancellor since the retirement of  Dr. B Thimmegowda in February. Although a VC search committee headed by Prof. S. R. Niranjana has shortlisted the names of University Visveswaraya College of Engineering (UVCE) principal,  Prof. KR Venugopal, a former professor of Mysuru University, Prof. Nagabhushan, and Prof. Sangamesh Patil for the post, no decision has been taken as yet owing to the differences between the Governor and the state government, say sources.  Mr Vajubhai Vala is reportedly keen on appointing  Prof. Venugopal to the post as he belongs to Other Backward Castes and has an international reputation as an academician and a fine researcher. “The Governor feels that Prof. Venugopal can bring his experience to the university, but the state government is  not ready to accept his name,” reveal sources.
