Bengaluru: A Coffee Day outlet in Vijayanagar was the scene of a brutal murder Thursday evening when four assailants attacked 35-year-old Mahesh, a realtor and rowdy-sheeter, killing him on the spot in what could be revenge for an earlier murder. His associate Rakshit, was seriously injured in the incident and has been admitted to a hospital.

The incident happened at around 7.30 pm while Mahesh and Rakshit were sipping coffee at Coffee Day near Manuvana bus stop. When he saw the men searching for him, Mahesh tried to run out of the café but in vain. The four men repeatedly hacked him on his face and head.

In the melee, Rakshit was also attacked when he was trying to flee. The few customers present when the gang barged in, managed to rush out without getting involved in the fight. Coffee Day staffers tried to close the shutters but the assailants smashed the glass panes and fled.  The entire incident is believed to have been captured on the CCTV camera.

Preliminary inquiries reveal that  28-year-old rowdy sheeter, Harsha, was hacked to death in Vijayanagar on April 27. It appears that the assailants were Harsha’s associates and the murder of Mahesh could be to avenge Harsha’s murder.

Mahesh had attended a wedding on Wednesday where he had created some problems, and the murder could be a result of that as well, police sources said.

While Harsha had six cases including murder and attempt to murder charges against him, Mahesh alias Mota  had multiple cases registered against him at a few police stations in West Division.

“Mahesh was an accused in a murder case in 2010, but he was acquitted then. He was a resident of Byadarahalli and usually comes to Vijayanagar to meet friends and have coffee,” a senior police official said.

Mahesh’s body was shifted to Victoria Hospital for the post-mortem. Vijayanagar police have registered a case of murder are further investigating.
