Telangana High Court refuses to stall works at Kaleshwaram project
The bench said that for the benefit of people at large somebody has to make a sacrifice.
Hyderabad: A division bench of the Telangana High Court comprising Acting Chief Justice Raghavendra Singh Chauhan and Justice Shameem Akther, on Thursday made it clear that it would not give directions to stop the construction of the Komaravelli Mallannasagar Reservoir and the Kaleshwaram Irrigation Project.
The bench was dealing with cases related to land compensation to those who had lost their lands and a contempt case filed by the villagers of Etigadda Kistapur village, Thoguta mandal in Siddipet district, who alleged non-implementation of the Rehabilitation and Resettlement Package (R&R) to the affected persons and oustees of the Mallannasagar Reservoir. The bench said that on the complaints of a few people, work on the irrigation projects cannot be stopped, in view of the larger number of beneficiaries.
However, the bench did assure those who had lost their lands or been ousted, that it would monitor from time to time the payment of compensation and implementation of the R&R package to the entitled persons by the state government according to the law.
“The bench assures to all the victims and oustees that we will monitor the payments issue as our anxiety, we will make sure that entitled persons get the last penny. You can approach the court if you have any grievances and facing any problems regarding compensation and R&R facilities,” the ACJ said.
The bench suggested that the petitioners to take the compensation and move on, paving the way for the project which will benefit the people of the state. The bench said that for the benefit of people at large somebody has to make a sacrifice.
“A family would need to sacrifice something for the benefit of a village, and a village for a town, a town for the state, the state for the country,” the ACJ said.
