Thiruvananthapuram: Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) may approach foreign investigation agencies in order to take Jithu, accused in gold smuggling through the airport, into custody. He is in Dubai.

There is information that advocate Biju Manoharan, the prime accused in the case and alleged accomplice of Vishnu, may surrender before the court, sources said.

DRI on Monday seized 25 kg gold worth Rs 8 crore from Thiruvananthapuram international airport. On the day, sleuths also arrested Sunil Kumar, former staffer with KSRTC, and Serina, who runs a beauty parlour in Dubai.

Officials on Tuesday arrested a woman lawyer Vineetha Ratnakumari who is the wife of advocate Biju Manoharan, who according to DRI, is the key player in the racket. The DRI suspectes Biju who collected the smuggled gold distributed it to jewelleries in the city.

Vineetha has allegedly admitted she had smuggled gold through airport four times in the past.

She confessed she did it after Biju threatened to divorce her if she was not willing to do it.
