KUFOS research fellows to attend exchange programme

The first three scholars will work with the scientist team of Chiang Mai University in Thailand for three months from July.

KOCHI: Five research fellows of Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean studies  have been selected for the exchange research fellowship visit to Thailand and Netherlands.  Ms. Amitha Kurian, Ms.Parvathy Prakash and Ms. Prasitha Bhat, biochemistry research students with the department of fish processing technology of KUFOS, will attend the programme in Thailand.    

Mr. Akashdeep Singh and Ms Rubeena Anish, also biochemistry research scholars with the same department, have secured the Netherlands scholarships to attend the 19th fish immunology workshop to be held in Wageningen University from April 29 to May 3. The first three scholars will work with the scientist team of Chiang Mai University in Thailand for three months from July.

 It is one of the top universities of Thailand which conducts research in various fields to enhance standards of teaching, learning, and technology transfer for the social and economic development of fisherfolk. The exchange programme is supported by the Thailand Research Council for Science Research. The three are currently working under Dr. E.P. Preetham in KUFOS on natural products as dietary supplements using fish as their model organism.

They will continue research on the same topic in Thailand University under the supervision of Dr. Hien Van Doan, a well-known scientist in biochemistry. The scholarships, awarded to Mr Akashdeep Singh and Ms Rubeena Anish  by the International Veterinary Vaccinology Network (IVVN), cover  all  the expenses for  attending the workshop in Holland.  They will present a paper on their current project works.
