CM Siddaramaiah inaugurates a Congress election rally for ZP-TP polls in Chamarajanagar on Tuesday

Mysuru: Putting up a brave face, CM Siddaramaiah  dismissed the disappointing results of the three Assembly bypolls saying it did not reflect the public opinion on the Congress government.

“This trend will not repeat in future elections. In every election, people have different reasons for casting their vote for a particular candidate,” said the CM, reacting to queries by mediapersons at HD Kote and Hanur on Tuesday.

“Although we did not have much hopes about bagging Deodurga, we were confident of winning Hebbal and Bidar,” he said.

Asked if bickering in the party had led to the defeat in  Hebbal, he said, “The candidate for Hebbal was selected by the party unanimously,  all leaders campaigned unitedly. Some secular votes may have got diverted to the JD(S).You should remember that this constituency was represented by BJP in previous terms. We will  introspect on the results soon after the ZP/TP elections.”

The CM paid homage to sepoy Mahesh who died in the avalanche at Siachen, at HD Kote Tuesday morning. During the ZP/TP election campaign, he appealed to voters to strengthen the Congress so that they could come up with more welfare programmes and implement them effectively.
