Bengaluru: Bengaluru's first-of-its-kind composting learning park, Swacha Graha Kalika Kendra, located in HSR Park with

20 composting models including a fully-functional biogas unit, was inaugurated on Saturday by Mayor Gangambike and Bommanahalli MLA Sathish Reddy.

Inaugurating the park, Mr Reddy said, "Over 90 percent of the garbage generated in the city can be converted into organic manure. Over 1.5 acres of the park has been converted into a learning centre with 20 composting models from which visitors can have a first-hand experience of turning waste into compost."

The park has been set up with the help from HSR Citizens Forum and Solid Waste Management Round Table. The park will help citizens find a solution to the problem plaguing the city and even the whole country, he said.

Mayor Gangambike said that for any initiative to be successful, it should have the full support of citizens.

“If the city has to be free of garbage, citizens have to know how garbage can be converted into compost. Many citizens throw the garbage without segregation and that is what has made garbage management a difficult task. If citizens can learn from these models on ways to compost, the burden of garbage management can be reduced from the civic body and we all can strive for a better city," she said.
