Odisha: Woman delivers baby near drain

The woman and the newborn remained unattended for almost half an hour before they were admitted to the hospital.

A woman who had been born without a uterus gave birth to the baby at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas.

Bhubaneswar: A pregnant woman on Friday delivered a baby girl near a drain on the premises of Koraput district headquarters hospital in Odisha after the medical staff allegedly denied her a check-up as she had forgotten to bring the required prescription.The woman and the newborn remained unattended for almost half an hour before they were admitted to the hospital.

According to reports, Dimai Muduli, 32, of Janiguda village under Mastiput panchayat in Koraput block, had come to the hospital with her husband Raghu Muduli in the morning due to his illness. After her husband was attended to by the doctors concerned, the woman developed labour pain and told the nurse about it. The nurse asked her for the required Mamata Yojana beneficiary card and prescription which she had not brought with her. The staff told her to bring the documents for check-up.

The woman then started going towards the toilet on the hospital premises but sat near a drain due to excess labour pain where she delivered a baby girl. After around 30 minutes, her husband saw her and informed the hospital authorities. The mother and the baby were then hospitalised. The district administration has ordered a probe into the incident.
