Mysuru: Federation in offing to declare yoga a sport

Mysuru: Union minister of state for ayurveda, yoga and naturopathy, Shripad Yesso Naik announced the establishment of an International Yogasana Sports Federation to promote yoga as a sport, at the fifth international yoga conference on heart care, which began here on Friday.

Reveaing that the federation was being established under the leadership of Yogrishi Swami Ramdev, founder of Patanjali Yogpeeth, the minister said a yoga certification board had been set up to certify the individual trainers and to accredit training institutions to promote yoga as a sport.  In addition, a mobile app, “Yoga Locator,” was being launched to help people  identify their nearest yoga centres and the Central Council for Research in Yoga and Naturopathy planned to set up a postgraduate centre for yoga and a few research institutes in different parts of the country.
