Minors found chained in MP madrasa

Bhopal: Two minors aged 10 and seven were found chained to a bench in a madrasa here on Sunday, prompting the police to launch a rescue operation.

Locals spotted the minors tied to a metallic bench with an iron chain in the morning and alerted the police who rushed to the spot and rescued the children by cutting the chain with a gas cutter, according to investigating officer Umesh Yadav.

The madrasa run in a private house, was found to be not registered under the MP Madrasa Board.

Police arrested the madrasa manager Mohd Shad, 30, under provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act as well as IPC Section 342 (punishment for wrongful confinement).

According to the police, Shad said the elder of the two boys was chained with the consent of his parents as he had escaped from the madrasa in the past. The residential school has 20 students drawn from various parts of MP.
