Thanjavur: Declare Thyagaraja Samadhi as national monument'

He told presspersons on Friday that his aim would be to encourage young artists through the centre.

He said that if the Samadhi of Thyagaraja is declared as a national monument, lot of benefits and facilities would accrue to the place which would be of great help to the artists who converge to sing in chorus during aradhana of the saint every year.

Thanjavur: Saint-composer Sri Thyagaraja’s samadhi on the banks of Cauvery at Thiruvaiyaru near Thanjavur should bedeclared as a national monument, urged  Prof. M. Balasubramoniam, new director of South Zone Cultural Centre here on Friday.

He assumed charge as the SZCC director on Thursday. He told presspersons on Friday that his aim would be to encourage young artists through the centre.

He said that if the Samadhi of Thyagaraja is declared as a national monument, lot of benefits and facilities would accrue to the place which would be of great help to the artists who converge to sing in chorus during aradhana of the saint every year.
