THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Several organisations of students and youth on Monday took marches to the University College in protest against the stabbing incident.

KSU leaders led by state president K.M. Abhijith began an indefinite fast in front of the secretariat demanding a judicial probe into the incident. Former chief minister Oommen Chandy, who inaugurated the fast, said the incident had brought shame to the state and demanded a judicial probe and exemplary punishment to the anti-social elements who were threatening ordinary students and the peaceful atmosphere on the campuses.

Members of the SDPI and Campus Front, who took out a march, were intercepted near AG’s office where police had installed barricades across the road. Water cannon was used against the activists who tried to pull down the barricades.

After the SDPI march, the Yuva Morcha staged a demonstration demanding action against the culprits. The Morcha leaders accused the CPM and the government of shielding the guilty.
