HYDERABAD: The state is on the threshold of recording unprecedented temperatures for June. The IMD continued to release alerts for heat wave at a time the monsoon was supposed to have set in.

The mercury stayed above 40ºC in the city, Secunderabad recording 40.6ºC, Saroornagar 40.4ºC and Serilingampally 40.1ºC. In the state, Suryapet was the hottest at 44.2ºC and 43.6ºC at Khammam. The IMD issued a heat wave alert for two days.

The TS Planning and Development Society said nine districts — Adilabad, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Jangaon, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Khammam, Mancherial, Mulugu, Warangal and Yadadri Bhuvangiri — were in the grip of a severe heat wave on Thursday.

Although an alert for light to moderate rains for isolated places in the state in the next five days has been given, it will be of little help to bring the mercury levels down in Telangana.
