Kochi: The police administration in the state has collapsed due to unilateral and unscientific measures taken without any consultations with the stakeholder, said opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala. The disappearance of a circle inspector is the result of the workload of the police increasing manifold due to the unscientific reforms, he added. The resignation of K. Rathish, police official of the Kannur AR camp is another instance of the collapse, he added.

The circle inspectors having the responsibility of three stations earlier have been now positioned as station house officers. The job of the ADGP has been given to the IGs. These kinds of tinkering with the system have created widespread discontent and unhappiness amongst the members of the police. A large number of police personnel are complaining about overworking. The strength of the police is not commensurate with the proportion of population.

The Opposition leader has also pointed out that another police official had committed suicide in Ernakulam few months ago.   The decision to grant magisterial power to the police is another example of the unilateral style of functioning by the CM, said Chennithala. Even the ruling alliance is having differences of opinion in the matter.
