ADILABAD: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the first time has emerged as a strong contender in local body elections for the MPTC and ZPTC seats in old Adilabad district. With candidates representing them in all the MPTC and ZPTC seats, they put up a tough fight against the TRS and Congress candidates in the local body elections. This development is evidence of the political influence of the BJP in old Adilabad and indicates its penetration into rural and tribal areas.

A noteworthy spike was observed in the number of B form applications filed by BJP candidates in the MPTC and ZPTC elections this time. Subsequently, a tough contest was noted as many members joined the BJP after witnessing the party's influence in old Adilabad district during the Lok Sabha elections. This is attributed to the waves made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and also very significantly by the Thudumdebba state president and the former MLA Soyam Bapurao joining and representing the party in the Lok Sabha elections.

However, some Liberals and Democrats are quite worried about the BJP’s penetration into tribal areas and the growing influence of the RSS and communal forces in old Adilabad district for Adilabad has been known to stand for democratic and revolutionary movements all these years. Political circles, however, are predicting the BJP's success to spread to the entire state in the coming days.

BJP leaders recalled the statement made by party president Amit Shah in the MLA election in Adilabad wherein he said that “the lotus will blossom from Adilabad as the BJP is in power in Maharashtra and Adilabad happens to be one of the entry points into Telangana from Maharashtra.”
