Multi-sport arena to come up at Tirupati

Tirupati: The much-awaited sports complex for the temple city of Tirupati will be a reality soon, with the Municipal Corporation of Tirupati (MCT) performed bhoomi puja for the construction of the complex on Friday.

MCT commissioner V. Vijayarama Raju, along with Tirupati legislator M. Sugunamma, TUDA chairman G. Narasimha Yadav and other officials took part in the ceremony held at Indira Grounds.    

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Raju said that the construction of sports complex under the concept of multi-sport indoor arena is being taken up at an estimated a cost of Rs 12 crore and it was planned to finish the construction within a year.  

“Five badminton courts along with one basketball and two volleyball courts would come up at the complex, which also has indoor recreational cricket and soccer stadiums. The new complex and the redevelopment of existing sports complex near SV University is being taken under the Smart City project, from where the funds will be released,” Mr Raju said.
