KOZHIKODE: The footpaths in various parts of the city have become virtual traps for pedestrians with damaged slabs having huge holes.

The various stretches of Mavoor road, Wayanad road, Kannur road, Kallai road, Palayam, Rajaji road and Kizhakke Nadakkav are posing a huge threat to the pedestrians due to their poor condition.

Many people have fallen into these holes and suffered injuries, said K.K. Rajan, a  trader  at Palayam.

The number of such spots is higher at Mavoor road junction near the church. Hundreds of pedestrians who rush to catch buses are risking their lives by moving over the concrete holes, he said.

Holes have been formed over the footpaths near the Kottapparambu hospital on Kallai road.

Though the corporation is spending lakhs of rupees for repair of the footpaths, the majority of the footpaths are in bad shape.

The number of accidents suffered by the people has been increasing.

Many alleged that the traders create the holes to push down waste from the shops.
