Hyderabad: “The painting of the first building at People’s Plaza speaks much on the open defecation habits of Hyderabadis. The painting is of a man grabbing those urinating and throwing them from a building so that they don’t repeat it,” said International artist Daan Botlek from Netherlands.

Though the site can qualify to be declared as one of the tourist destinations in Hyderabad, the old cars parked by locals, garbage points and no curbs on open defecation is spoiling the view.

The site needs information boards about the artists and their works, sanitary drive and removal of parked vehicles. The organisers have asked GHMC to hold a cleanliness drive there.

The painting of artist Daan Botlek narrates a scene where a man is grabbing two others urinating. Another depicts him throwing them down from a building. The wall facing the HMDA parking lot displays the men lying on the ground. “The circumstances decide the image and the story,” said the artist.

Mr Mohd Wasim, a resident of BS Makta, said, “The transformation from a sketch to a final mural is stunning. The Necklace Road has undergone a cultural resurgence recently. Though the look has changed, the litter around, dusty cars and dirty compound walls take much away from the value added.’’

What is needed for the hour

  • A cleanliness drive around the parking lot
  • Removal of unused parked cars especially opposite the painted building
  • The compound walls of the building need a round of painting too.
  • A bench or two in front of the painted building will add to the feature.
  • It needs to be ensured that vandals and insensitive individuals do not damage the sincere work of artists.
  • Replacement of the damaged iron  merry-go-round equipments.
  • Names of the artist's works and the concept needed will be displayed at the People’s plaza parking lot.
