Telangana Court Awards Compensation to Children of Murdered Woman

Hyderabad: In a first in Telangana, the I Additional District and Sessions Judge at Bhongir awarded Rs 10 lakh compensation to two minor children of a woman, Rapaka Kavitha, who was murdered by her husband in Yadadri Bhongir district in 2019.

While the accused, R. Nagaraju, was sentenced to life imprisonment, their two children were the main witness in the case and testified against the father,

Additional Public Prosecutor Vancha Damodhar Reddy said that the two kids who saw their mother being killed detailed to the court how their father harassed her and killed her. Along with them, their relatives also testified against the accused, resulting in Nagaraju being sentenced ot life imprisonment.

Bhongir DCP M. Rajesh Chandra said that as the children had lost their mother and their father was in prison, the court awarded each of them Rs  5 lakh. He also appreciated the work of the additional public prosecutor and the police personnel who pursued the case in the court.

Nagaraju and Kavitha were working as labourers. Nagaraju suspected her of having an extra-marital affair and attempted to kill her multiple times. On the day of the incident, Nagaraju attacked Kavitha with a bounder. Their children woke up to her cries for help and witnessed the murder.
