Hyderabad: Caretaker Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao met Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan on Thursday for the first time after the dissolution of the Assembly last week. The meeting was in the backdrop of the Opposition barring the BJP meeting Mr Narasimhan on Wednesday and demanding imposition of President’s rule alleging that the caretaker government was misusing its powers by implicating Opposition leaders in false cases.

A delegation comprising the Congress, TD, TJS and Left parties had demanded that the Governor remove Mr Rao as caretaker CM immediately and impose President’s rule to ensure that the elections were free and fair. The Opposition also pointed out that 12 retired IAS and IPS officers appointed as advisers by the TRS government were still working, but they were not needed at this stage.

They alleged that members of the Planning Board were also continuing in their posts. The delegation requested the Governor to control and restrain Mr Rao from interfering with the institutions and financial aspects of the government.  During his meeting on Thursday, Mr Rao is learnt to have clarified the allegations made by the Opposition against him.

Mr Rao told the Governor that he was acting within the limits prescribed in the Constitution, and the allegations against him were baseless. He argued that there was no need to impose President’s rule as there were no Constitutional violations nor law and orders issues.
