Vijayawada: The Left parties on Thursday staged a huge protest at the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation office, against the discrepancies in the allocation of plots in housing scheme to BPL families.

Leaders of the CPM alleged that municipal council led by TD has miserably failed to address public issues and was trying to privatise valuable properties of the VMC.

CPM state secretariat member Ch. Babu Rao, addressing the gathering, alleged that TD corporators were busy making money by selling plots allocated to the poor in the housing scheme and city legislators were backing them solely to make money.

Mr Babu Rao said that TD-led council has ignored sanitation in the city and Vijayawada has become a hub of vector-borne diseases. He said that mayor Koneru Sridhar has totally failed to address public issues and was trying to suppress the voice of the Opposition.
